Coach Denny Welter
Dennis Welter grew up on a farm and attended Chaska High School where he played football, basketball, and baseball. Denny’s athletic career continued at Mankato State where he played football and 4 years of varsity baseball. He is a graduate of MSU - Mankato. Welter served in the U.S. military from 1969-71 and is a Viet Nam veteran. In 1972, he accepted a teaching and coaching position in Chaska. Denny was selected as Section Coach of the Year in 1981 and 1992. He has been inducted in the Minnesota State Basketball Hall of Fame and the Chaska High School Hall of Fame. Coach Welter taught health for 28 years at Chaska High School before retiring in 2000. After reading Manhood from the Hood, Coach Welter contacted Bill Roddy, and now the two are friends.
